When one is on vacation, one feels the need to take pictures. And sometimes when one is alone, one still desires to have a picture of oneself with one's surroundings. Here is where the self-portrait (aka "selfie") gets its debut. After perusing my vacation photos, I have come to realize that taking good selfies is a challenge. I highly recommend traveling with a companion. It will grant the opportunity for much better pictures. When a selfie is the only way to capture proof of one's presence, one should be prepared to take plenty of shots.
Selfie Problems (aka "Reasons To Avoid Selfies Whenever Possible")
Only the top of your head is showing.
You totally missed the background.
You are a floating head (especially problematic with water backgrounds).
You cut off your own head (the French Revolution takes a turn for the worse).
It is super obvious that you are taking a selfie (Hello, Arm!).
You get photo-bombed too easily.
If selfie is your only option, you can make it work. Experiment with the self-portrait setting on your camera if you have one. Your camera's timer is another alternative. Finding a suitable surface and setting up the shot is the challenge in that case. With some persistence, you'll finally end up with a decent selfie.
Taking too many selfies might reflect some degree of narcissism. Therefore, you should probably take some silly shots to prove that you don't take yourselfie too seriously.
